June 15, 1992.
On this day commenced the 1992 Computer Music Technology Conference and Workshop, hosted by the Indiana University School of Music at IUPUI. The conference ran through June 22. The event served to highlight the state-of-the-art computer music laboratory opened in 1991 and located in the Mary Cable Building on campus. The conference featured an array of classes and workshops in the lab presented by IUPUI faculty and prominent figures in computer-music education and technology. "The conference is designed to meet classroom needs as well as the requirements of professional performers," said Darrell L. Bailey, director of the IUPUI music program and conference planner. "Anyone interested in pursuing music as a career in the coming years is going to need to know about computers and multi-media."
Today the Department of Music and Arts Technology offers the BS, MS, and PhD degrees in music technology, and is housed in IUPUI's Purdue School of Engineering and Technology.
