On This Day in IUPUI History: April 26, 2014

April 26, 2014.

On this day, for the first time an all-women team from the IUPUI Motorsports Engineering program entered the Purdue Grand Prix go-kart race at Purdue University-West Lafayette. The team of seven women were joined by other IUPUI teams in the 27-team field for the race.

The Motorsports Engineering program was created in 2008 in IUPUI's Purdue School of Engineering and Technology as the first of its kind in the United States. Students in the Bachelor of Science program have had great success in the Purdue Grand Prix, winning several of the races in recent years. Motorsports Engineering students have also raced in other collegiate races with success.
