Accessing D&B Hoovers, Kanopy, DUO authentication

There has been an issue at times with accessing D&B Hoovers, Kanopy, and other systems. Specifically, if people had set their DUO authentication to remember them for seven days, and try to access one of these systems, they may find they cannot gain access to the database in question.

If and when this occurs, we recommend as a best solution to OPEN AN INCOGNITO WINDOW and access the database in that way. This will force the person to reauthenticate in DUO at the time of access and solve the problem.

EBSCO eBooks and site maintenance May 5-May 12, 2021

EBSCO eBooks, EDS, EBSCOadmin, and EBSCOhost Collection Manager will undergo maintenance for a system upgrade May 5-12, 2021.

Please note the following for EBSCO eBooks use during that time:

  • End users will not be able to download full eBooks to read offline from EBSCOhost, EBSCO Discovery Service, and New Discovery Service. They will be able to read eBooks online and download eBook chapters, and any eBooks already downloaded will continue be available to users.

  • End users will not be able to download full eBooks to read offline from the EBSCO Mobile App. They will be able to like eBooks to download later, and any eBooks already downloaded will continue be available to users in the app.

  • eBook hold ready alerts will not be sent to end users during the downtime.

Embedding videos into Canvas - issue reported 4/15/2021

There is currently a problem with embedding videos from Academic Video Online and Alexander Street into Canvas courses. Although the video is available to IUPUI patrons on the Academic Video Online site, as well as through Alexander Street, the canvas-embedded video appears to reference Bloomington access privileges rather than IUPUI, resulting in an authentication error after approximately 30 seconds.

We are working with Canvas-instructional professionals at IU to resolve the problem, but expect that this problem might take longer to resolve and could extend into next week.

D&B Hoovers

Users have reported ongoing difficulties connecting to D&B Hoovers from off campus. Anyone receiving an error message is asked to right-click the link to D&B and open the link in an incognito window. This will force the user to reauthenticate in DUO, even if the option had been chosen before to be remembered for 7 days. Alternatively, the user can clean the browser history and cookies and try to connect to D&B Hoovers from a fresh screen, but either way, a reauthentication in DUO is necessary.

BNA Tax and Accounting access problem

There is an ongoing issue connecting off-campus to BNA Tax and Accounting. This does not affect anyone trying to connect from a physical on-campus computer, but access through VPN or IUAnywhere is NOT possible.

Anyone trying to connect from off campus will have to have registered for a half-year pass (renewable in December and June). THIS REGISTRATION CAN ONLY BE MADE FROM AN ON CAMPUS COMPUTER.

The URL for self-registration is https://webutil.bna.com/self_registration/school/register

If a patron is physically unable to come to campus to fill out this self-registration form, they may email us at econtact@iupui.edu and we will try to assist them in registering.

Here is a snapshot of the registration screen. READ BELOW THIS SNAPSHOT FOR IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS:

Be aware of the following:

  • All fields must be filled out
  • The email address must be given in the domain @iupui.edu. If a patron has an email as @iu.edu, input it as @iupui.edu, and the email confirmation should still route to them. BE SURE THE PATRON KNOWS that their login ID will be @iupui.edu, regardless of their actual email domain.
  • The patron will receive an email with a link to follow to sign in. Instead of signing in, they should choose the “forgot my password” option and give their LOGIN address …@iupui.edu (NOT their email address, if their email address is not @iupui.edu). This will email them a link to reset their password, and they can then login to BNA.
  • This login is only valid for the half-year, ending in either December or June.

Issues with Access to Library Resources While Using VPN

Previously, if an off-campus user was logged into the VPN, all library resources would recognize them as being on campus and they would get access to all resources.  This has changed with an alteration to VPN configuration; access to library resources is now only possible if the user is employing resources through links from the IUPUI University Library website.

For a possible alternative solution, please go to the bookmarklet page.

This issue will likely persist as long as IUPUI is a virtual campus.

OneSearch access issues

Some searches in OneSearch are resulting in links to resources that do not give access.  If this occurs, please try searching for it in IUCAT.
